Witchfire's brief appearances in the last decade also make her incredibly malleable, giving them the chance to either play her for sympathy or turn her into the truly dark version of Magik. Especially as the machinations of the Beast and the Hell Bride potentially put a demonic target on the back of the mutant population. The current era has brought back plenty of deep-cut characters and enemies of the mutant nation, and Witchfire could make for a very fun antagonist to the more magical-themed heroes of Krakoa. The unwitting daughter of Belasco versus the unwilling student of him, a demon raised largely on Earth as opposed to the mutant who was trapped within the hellish Limbo for much of her adolescence. Her abilities and dark personality make her an ideal contrast to Magik, who has risen in prominence as a young member of the X-Men. Witchfire could easily reveal herself, or could make a play for Limbo in the ensuing chaos. Meanwhile, Magik was actually in the process of handing control of Limbo over to a recently resurrected Goblyn Queen (albeit under very specific circumstances that help protect Krakoa and the mutant nation). The throne of Limbo is currently up in the air, with a mysterious visitor in New Mutants #25 empowering Sym enough that he could destroy Magik's Soul Sword and try to claim Limbo for themselves. However, now might be the perfect time for Witchfire to make her return to potential prominence. Luckily though, they were able to banish Witchfire, though she's since appeared in minor roles such as working with Hydra during the Fear Itself storyline. Witchfire proved dangerous enough to hold her own against Magik, forcing her to turn to her reluctant allies in the X-Men and New Mutants. She vowed to the other lords of hell that she would take it from the DarkChilde, the demonic version of Illyana Rasputin. After Alpha Flight was disbanded, Witchfire tried to claim Limbo as her own in X-Infernus by C.B. The demonic lord of Limbo, Belasco, intended to use her as a weapon against the possible peace across all creation as a result of the Infinity Crusade. Coinciding with the Infinity Crusade storyline, Witchfire discovered she was actually the daughter of the Belasco, explaining her supernatural abilities. When she became a team leader, this dark side came out more until she even risked her teammate Manikin's life by lashing out at the Spider-Man villain known as the Jackal. She worked as a friend to the heroes for a time only for the increasing pressure she found herself under to bring out a dark side of her. Initially, Witchfire was a possible hero, recruited to Gamma Flight after the disappearance of Alpha Flight with Witchfire ultimately joining up with the latter team. Witchfire was introduced in Alpha Flight #76 by James Hudnall and John Calimee.
